Contest celebrates wildlife
Artist Robert Bateman, who has made a career of celebrating wildlife through his paintings, invites students from across Canada enter his art and writing contest.
Robert Bateman’s ‘Get to Know’ program encourages students to become actively involved in protecting the future of our planet and the wildlife that inhabits it.
Canada’s foremost wildlife artist started the contest in March 2000, based on his conviction that "caring for this planet begins with getting to know our neighbours of other species." He wants children to "get to know" their wild neighbours – that is, to observe wildlife in their own backyards and local parks – and then to submit original works of art or writing to the contest, based on their experience.
Entries must be postmarked by Earth Day, Tuesday, April 22. To learn more about the program and initiatives or for downloadable entry forms, visit www.gettoknow.ca.
Participants must be 19 years or younger and entries will be divided into several age groups. You can enter as many times as you like. Written submissions must be 40 words (that’s forty! words) or less. Species selected must live in your neighbourhood and entries must reflect a knowledge of the species.
Each year, winning entries are featured in the popular Robert Bateman ‘Get to Know’ Calendar, which is distributed across Canada.
