A Thanksgiving to Remember

There is something especially meaningful about Thanksgiving. It gives us a chance to slow down; gather with the people we love and take a moment to appreciate all that life has given us.

This Thanksgiving is particularly special for me. We have a wedding to look forward to – my son will be marrying a wonderful woman who has been part of our lives practically from the very beginning. She may officially become my daughter-in-law, but in my heart, she has felt like part of the family for a very long time.

As I think about their upcoming wedding, I find myself looking forward not only to seeing the two of them celebrate their love, but also to seeing so many people we care about in one place. Family and friends will be travelling to be there, some from quite a distance, simply because they want to share this special moment with them.

I can already picture the room – people hugging, laughing, catching up, sharing stories and probably shedding a few happy tears along the way. It will be one of those moments when you look around and realize just how fortunate you are. A room filled with people who have been part of our lives in so many ways, all there to celebrate two people we love.

And isn’t that what Thanksgiving is really about?

It’s not just the turkey, the stuffing or the pumpkin pie, although I certainly won’t complain about any of those! It’s about sitting around the table with the people who matter, sharing stories, enjoying a few laughs and being grateful for the moments we sometimes get too busy to notice.

Life moves quickly. Children grow up, relationships change and new chapters begin. Sometimes we need occasions like Thanksgiving – and weddings – to remind us to stop for a moment and take it all in.

This year, I am thankful for the people who have stood beside us, for the friendships that have lasted through the years, for the love that continues to grow and for the exciting moments still ahead.

There is so much to look forward to, and I can’t think of a better reason to be grateful.

From my family to yours, I hope your Thanksgiving is filled with good food, lots of laughter, warm hugs and the people who make your life a little brighter.

Happy Thanksgiving!
