The mom who never washes her hair

The mom who never washes her hair

This week, I came across a blog post about a mom who hasn’t washed her hair in five years.  At first I was thinking, why is this “media news worthy”? Why would people even care about a woman who has or hasn’t washed her hair in five years? Obviously she is happy, and probably does not have any complaints that she smells, or else she would do something about it.
littleowlcrunchymomma is a writer and has a blog and facebook page she has gotten a lot of media attention, some good and some bad.  It takes a lot of courage to write about anything personal. Especially since she puts her self-worth on the line to be judged. I believe littleowlcrunchymomma is trying to promote her healthy lifestyle. This is the blog link that started upheaval in the media.

I find this whole situation relevant because my husband and I have taken little steps in our lives to minimize chemicals in our home. We make our own laundry soap and we also use wool dryer balls instead of bounce sheets.  Last year, my husband was trying to get me to change from shampoo and conditioner to just a natural shampoo soap made by The Soap Works.  I tried it for a couple of weeks but really hated it. I have never tried not washing my hair but maybe I will. If it is healthier, why not? My body is a temple and I want to treat it like one.  I think littleowlcrunchymomma has a point when the question is posed: Would you consume the shampoo? Of course not. So why put it in your hair, since our bodies absorb the chemicals, and we don’t need any more pollution in our bodies.
Good for littleowlcrunchymomma for having the courage to share her experience and if you notice in the pictures of her blog, her hair looks good.
