New Book Helps Parents Align Their Values and Find Their Own Voice
Having a baby is an exciting and highly anticipated time for most couples but it’s also a time of significant transition. Becoming a parent changes people. It changes how we see ourselves and our partner, and how our partner sees us. There is no checklist for this shift in identity, so it’s impossible to plan or prepare for it when it happens.
During transitional time, parents face an overwhelming amount of unsolicited opinions and advice on best practices for raising their children. This in-person and digital noise can be crushing and often leaves parents questioning their own abilities.
Some couples can easily navigate through these changes and learn to align their parenting styles with little conflict, but for others, learning to work together can be extremely difficult. Each person brings their own upbringing, past trauma, culture and family values to their parenting style.
By understanding how each person’s past influences how they parent their own children, couples and co-parents can learn how to work together to raise children who are healthy, happy and resilient.
Martina Nova’s new book Same Page Parenting: Align with Your Partner to Raise Happy, Healthy and Resilient Kids helps parents find their own voice and align their parenting styles with their partner’s style to raise healthy and happy children. Unlike other books that tell parents what to do and gives advice on how to raise their children, Nova’s book provides in-depth information and additional resources, so parents have the knowledge and confidence to make decisions on best practices for raising their children.
This easy-to-read book covers everything from food and meals to safety, sleep, self-love and awareness, empathy, postpartum and mental health, financial literacy, digital influence, neurodivergent families, bullying, and so much more. Same Page Parenting discusses each topic from the perspective of both parents so readers gain a clear understanding of how becoming a parent affects each person.
Each topic Nova covers in her book concludes with a set of open-ended questions that are designed to help parents think about and apply the knowledge to their family. The questions are classified into the different parental stages and child age-ranges from prenatal to adult children so it’s easier for readers to focus on their own circumstance as they learn how to work together.
Same Page Parenting offers information and tips to help parents raise their children at any developmental stage and within the boundaries of their personal comfort. Whether parents are raising children in one household, or coparenting, this book is designed to help all parents gain a better understanding of each other so they can find balance and support the other while confidently raising their children.
Nova doesn’t just provide information and advice to parents, she practices what she preaches. Throughout each chapter, Nova talks candidly about her own personal experiences, emotions and lessons learned while raising her two young children in a co-parenting family. She openly shares her experiences going through the shift and learning about her own parenting styles while finding balance with her ex-husband’s parenting styles so they are raising their children to be happy, healthy, and confident.
Nova is a Registered Clinical Counsellor and trauma-informed therapist. She was born in Slovakia and moved to Canada with her family as a child. She now resides in Vancouver, British Columbia.
Same Page Parenting: Align with Your Partner to Raise Happy, Healthy and Resilient Kids is published by Ulysses Press. It was released on March 10 and is available at major retailers and audiobook sellers including Amazon, Indigo Books, Audible Books and Google Play Books.
