Toronto Film School Summer Academy Aims to Spark Your Teen’s Creative Side This Summer
Parents, the countdown to summer break has begun, and so has the search for the perfect summer camp! If you’re wondering how to keep your creative teen(s) engaged this July and August, consider channeling their creativity into one of our new summer academies in acting, filmmaking or video games.
Designed specifically for students aged 15 to 17 entering Grade 11 or 12 this fall, students will learn the skills, techniques, and industry lingo professionals use today to bring their projects to life. These immersive, week-long bootcamps will be held at one of our downtown Toronto campuses and will be taught by the same industry professionals that make up our faculty.
No experience is required to enrol. With a focus on learning real-world skills, each academy provides a strong foundation for those interested in creative careers. Plus, with only 24 students per academy, participants will receive personalized attention in a highly interactive setting!
All New for Summer 2025:
Acting Academy
High school students will work with TFS instructors Rosanna Saracino* and Chris Jacot* to develop their acting skills in a supportive, hands-on environment. They will explore foundational techniques such as camera awareness, character development, script analysis, blocking, stagecraft, and improvisation, all while learning to be authentic and truthful in a role. Students will also practice movement and vocal control while preparing scenes for both live and on-camera performances. This week-long acting academy offers a glimpse into the hands-on learning and industry-focused training found in Toronto Film School’s full-time Acting for Film, TV & the Theatre diploma program.
Dates: July 14 to 18, 2025, or Aug. 18 to 22, 2025
Filmmaking Academy
High school students will join TFS instructors Leah Walker* and Dave McGrath* for a dive into the world of filmmaking. Students will be guided through the creative and logistical elements of a production, playing an essential role in the development process. Collaborating in teams, students will bring their ideas to life under the mentorship of experienced industry professionals. This week-long bootcamp offers a taste of the hands-on learning and industry-focused training found in Toronto Film School’s full-time Film Production diploma program.
Dates: July 7 to 11, 2025, or Aug.11 to 15, 2025
Video Game Academy
High school students will dive into the action-packed world of video game creation under the guidance of TFS instructor Naveen Prasad* and other faculty members. Working as part of a creative team, students will learn the fundamentals of game design, programming, and game art while collaborating to create their own playable game concept. From brainstorming original ideas to testing the final product, participants will experience the thrill of bringing a vision to life. This immersive week provides an engaging introduction to the hands-on learning and industry-focused training taught in Toronto Film School’s Video Game Design & Animation and Video Game Design & Development programs.
Dates: July 21 to 25, 2025, or Aug. 25 to 29, 2025
