Visit the Y for free on Sunday

The first exposure my son had to a giant swimming pool, a gym set up for toddlers complete with mats, slides and climbers as well as a wonderful craft area came through our local YMCA.

Along with the library, the Y was where we hung out during those early years.

That’s why the idea of opening the doors of YMCAs across the country on Sunday, June 2 for a free event called YMCA Healthy Kids Day excites me. I’m hoping families that haven’t experienced what their local Y has to offer will take advantage of the opportunity. And for those who hang out at the Y as we did, the event will reinforce the idea of living healthy, active lives.

YMCA Healthy Kids Day is meant to encourage families to explore healthy habits and learn how they can make a difference in their lives throughout the year. At a time when children do not meet the recommended levels of daily physical activity, the role of the Y and its many programs, is even more important.
