Make a Lego heart
Kids love Lego and they can also “heart” Lego with these plans for a heart shape made of Lego. Check out the instructions from Lego master model builder Noel Straatsma.
1. We will start the heart with a 1×2 red LEGO plate. Plates are the flat LEGO pieces in your collection while bricks are the regular, taller pieces. It is called a 1×2 plate because, if we count the number of studs on the side we get 1 and if we count the studs on the bottom we get 2.
2. Next, we will take two 1×2-inverted slope bricks. These pieces have a slope underneath them and 2 studs on the top. Place them back-to-back so the slopes go outwards.
3. A 1×2 brick will go on top in the middle. This brick will cover the crack made by the 2 sloped bricks. This is called “interlocking” and when you build LEGO models, interlocking will ensure your model is strong.
4. 2 more inverted slope bricks will sit next to the 1×2 brick, again with the slopes facing outwards.
5. A 1×4 brick will go on top in the centre. Notice how this brick interlocks both sloped bricks?
6. 2 more inverted slope bricks will go next to the 1×4 brick. Same as before.
7. Next, a 1×6 brick will go on top in the centre.
8. Two more 1×2 inverted slope bricks on either side.
9. Then a 1×2 brick will go in the centre of your heart.
10. Two 1×4 bricks will go on either side of the 1×2 brick.
11. Next, you will want to find two 1×2 sloped bricks. These are not inverted slopes however. They have 1 stud on top and the slope is also on top instead of underneath. Place them so that the thin end of the slopes are touching each other. The 2 pieces should make a ‘V’ in the middle.
12. Then, we will want to find two 1×2 bricks and place them on either side of the slope bricks.
13. You will need two 1×1 bricks that have a stud on only one side as well as one on the top. Place them beside the 1×2 bricks, making sure that the studs on the sides are facing outwards.
14. Next, you will need to find two 1×2 plates but these plates are special as they only have 1 stud in the middle. Place one end of the plate onto the stud facing outwards. These two plates help give the sides of the heart a rounded look.
15. Then you will need to find four 1×2 slope bricks. The first 2 will go back to back on one side of the heart to give the top of the heart a rounded look.
16. The other 2 will go back to back on the other side to complete your Valentine’s Day heart.
