Happy New Year!
The chapter of 2022 has now closed, and our family problems continue. If it’s not one thing it’s another.
Almost every family faces problems. Each member is unique and different from the other. There is no such thing as a perfect family. It doesn’t exist. So, stop beating yourself up and comparing yourself to your neighbour or your sister. However, even if you think your problems are the most severe you’ve ever experienced, they are most likely quite common.
#1 Communication
I read something the other day that resonated with me, and it said: “We are happier when we give people a bit of our heart rather than a piece of our mind.” Now let’s think about that for a few seconds and imagine ourselves speaking to a loved one. It’s all about deliverance.
#2 Mental illness
Nearly every household – not all – has someone battling mental health problems. Talk about it. Get the family involved. Create a team, seek outside help and support not only for the person who is struggling but for yourself as well. A stronger and more understanding version of yourself will go a long way. Your life will be positively impacted by the tools you learn when you are empathetic and informed.
#3 Stressful family members
Conflicts between individuals are always stressful and challenging. Let’s face it, children and adults are not so easy to change. They may not be aware that they stress you out. However, here’s where communication comes in. Let them know. It’s more likely that their actions that cause you stress might change for the better, but not entirely. Be prepared. If you know someone doesn’t like it when you touch their stuff, then don’t or at least ask if they mind. It’s that simple.
#4 Arguments over difference of opinions
Why do people argue over differences of opinion with others? Whether it’s in a boardroom or the kitchen table our opinions are just that – ours. Arguments happen when both parties have a difference of opinion, which in most cases is okay. We all come from different cultures and environments. Everyone’s household is different because we are all unique. If we learned to accept someone else’s opinion, there’d be less arguments, it’s as simple as that. However, sometimes there are differences, and that’s okay.
If we all lived and loved like there’s no tomorrow, imagine what our world would be.
