Giving thanks to mother nature

It was something that I felt was important to remember this weekend. Thanksgiving Day is a holiday to give thanks for the blessings in one's life, particularly the harvest. It is a day off work for many Canadians. For Thanksgiving weekend let’s try to make people feel good, spend time with loved ones, smile, laugh, and enjoy each other’s company.

 This holiday is something I look forward to because it marks the end of a great cottage year.  This is my favourite time to explore the forest with my children and my niece and nephew. We look for fun bugs, creatures, listen to different bird sounds, and search for treasures to hold onto until next year. We gather wood for the next year’s fire and we put our boots on and jump in puddles. Everything is heightened and you try to take everything in because you might need to hold onto this memory to get you through the tough months of winter. You hold onto the memory of the one place that can truly make you happy.

It might be because it is Autumn and the leaves have changed colour, the heat from a wood stove or fire warms our souls and the feeling at the cottage changes, it is quieter, things seem different, but  things seem good.

If you happen to find yourself searching for something to do this weekend, remember that Mother-Nature can always make you feel better. Go for a walk, explore the nearest forest, provincial park or go for a long drive in the country. Find yourself in nature, because it will make you feel so much better. Happy Thanksgiving.
